Four hearts

I've read and read. Considered books, games and crafts with a therapeutic undertone. Draw a monster that represents cancer. Scratch as much as you'd like.

In the end, mama knows best. I decided not to focus on the illness, our weakness, but on our strength: our love for each other as a family.
For over an hour, we work with the fullest concentration. I cut four hearts out of coloured paper. The boys glue little figures on top, and draw lavishly on the hearts with crayons and pencils. As a finishing touch I add a small photo portrait of each family member on their works of arts.

Big Brother picks a spot in the living room and I hang our four hearts in a row. Whenever Big Brother or Little Brother is feeling sad, my comfort often is: "We have four hearts". Now the boys have a visual reminder of that love day in and day out.
