Big Brother is busy in his car park: "Farmer Pickles needs to go to the hospital. He, er, has a cancer too. Whee-ooo whee-ooo." (Farmer Pickles has arrived in the hospital). "They have to see if the cancer needs to get better. Oh no, because it isn't making his body well."
"Poor Farmer Pickles... Thís is to cure him." Big Brother grabs a Duplo petrol hose and a garbage truck. "We need an engine as well." He is constructing a pimped truck with utmost concentration. Suddenly I witness Big Brother's light bulb moment! With twinkling eyes he says: "And then, the car is going to cure Farmer Pickles: because it is a 'ziekenauto' [ambulance, literally 'car for sick persons' in Dutch].
His playing moves me to tears. Kenji is only gone for a couple of days and my big boy already tries so hard to make the best of the situation. So I decide to do the same and make an autumn garland while the boys cure more cancer with their custom made Duplo cars.
Gather and dry autumn leaves (for a couple of days between paper and/or flower press). Put dried leaves under a sheet of paper (white or colored, 120 grams) and rub over the surface with wax blocks (I used single Stockmar blocks, but you can use more colors for an even more intense effect) until grains and outlines appear. Cut out colored leaves and start compiling the garland: alternate the dried leaves, the colored ones and some dried Chinese lantarns on a string of iron tread. Happy Autumn!
